The bid senator of Gilbert Nnaji, to return to Abuja come 2019 suffered an unpredictable setback on Tuesday,
This is as the former Governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani polled majority of the votes cast in Nkanu West, venue of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senatorial primary for Enugu West Senatorial Zone.
While Chimaroke scored 597 votes, Nnaji came distant second with 69 votes
The election was conducted amidst tight security, which witnessed the presence of the Enugu State Police Commissioner and other top security operatives.
DAILY POST reports that the exercise suffered a hitch owing to the insufficient number of ballot papers, a development that stopped delegates from Enugu West from voting. They are said to be 160 in number.
There was tension as it took nearly three hours before the five aspirants eventually gave their consent for the votes to be counted. Thus there is unanimous speculation of the fate of the serving senator, whether he will still be PDP member or defects as this was not rare among Nigerian politicians.
More to come…
